Mamuu Secondary School

Completion

The school is finally finished. Students started classes on September 1st 2023.  Over the course of about 12 weeks, a dedicated of crew of forty builders, took 7500 stone-bricks, about 65,000 Kgs of cement and about 350 tons of sand along with all of the other building materials to build a place of learning which will hopefully serve the young people of Mamuu for many years to come. Empowering those students to overcome their current economic and social barriers and to realize their dreams of becoming doctors, teachers or engineers. Always at the heart of the project was the unshakeable faith of the village parents and leaders. Faith in the principle that knowledge is power and that their children deserve every opportunity to have better, more fulfilling lives through the pursuit of education.

Heartfelt gratitude to those who contributed to the funding for the construction of this new school.

Mamuu Secondary School

Update - week 3

Good progress on our school project in Mamuu. Construction is moving along, slightly ahead of schedule. Reports from our construction team noted the continued, incredible support from the local community. The building foundation is complete and construction of toilet facilities is well underway.

Teachers from the adjacent primary school are having a tough time containing student’s excitement when trucks arrive with building materials. Chatting among themselves (in loud voices) comments like "this is a new beginning, we have a new school.” express how much this project means to them.

Thank you for your support !

Update - week 1

We are thrilled to report that Build African School’s next construction project got underway this week in Kenya.

The school location is near the village of Mamuu, which is about 120km south east of Nairobi. The plan is to build a 4-classroom secondary school, adjacent to an existing primary school. Students from the primary school will graduate to attend the new secondary school later this year. In addition to the classrooms, the new facility will have basic toilet & shower facilities . Total size of the school building will be approx. 515 square meters.

At the beginning of this week, our construction crew arrived to unload materials and start work on the foundation for the building. There was a lot of energy and excitement as parents, students and village leaders attended the ground breaking ceremony.

We expect construction to take about 6 to 8 weeks, depending on weather and materials logistics.

Check back to see the progress over the coming weeks
